Management Plan for La Visité National Park, Haiti

Scope: Jacmel and Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The objective of the study is the environmental recovery of the protected natural area “La Visite”, taking into account the ecological values, social demand and economic progress of the area.

To achieve these objectives, several actions were carried out, including coordination with the Haitian Ministry of the Environment, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and other technical groups. In addition, essential field work was carried out to collect data from both the natural and social environment, verifying these data “in situ”. The mapping of natural areas was carried out and a detailed inventory of crops, rivers, soils and vegetation was made.

In order to ensure the environmental protection of the area, a thorough assessment of the surroundings was carried out. Likewise, social, economic and environmental uses were established, laying the foundations for sustainable management and development. Concrete actions for improvement and conservation were proposed and planned for future implementation.

To encourage participation and informed decision-making, technical working sessions were held with representatives of the Ministry and forums were organized for the general public. This integrated approach seeks not only the environmental recovery of La Visite National Park, but also the promotion of citizen participation and equitable development in the region.
